The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller- Mini Book Review.

"Every single time I see the ocean, even if I’ve been there in the morning, it feels like a new miracle—its power, its blueness always just as overwhelming. Like falling in love."

In this book we follow Elle, a married mother of three. She visits The Paper Palace (her family summer place) every summer. One morning, Elle and her oldest friend Jonas had sex with each other for the first time. Elle now has to a decision to make- stay with her beloved husband Peter, or start a relationship with her best and oldest friend, Jonas.

FOMO brought me here and I'm glad it did. This book has been getting a lot of attention and it was also long-listed for the 2022 Women's Prize for fiction.

This was a compelling read to say the least. I was hooked from the start. So many things happening in just the beginning of the book- cheating spouses, dysfunctional family drama and haunting pasts. This book will make for a great screen adaptation, which I'm hoping will happen.

I will say that I don't know how I feel about the ending though. It's ambiguous, but it didn't feel like it needed to be? Maybe I'm just salty because I wanted a more straight forward ending with more answers . I guess the good thing is that this kind of ending will cause readers to think more deeply about the book and it will incite the need to discuss what they think the ending means. It's always a plus when a book can stir up conversation like that. Either way this book was entertaining and I'm glad I picked it up.
