So Long A Letter by Mariama Bâ- Book Review.

"Friendship has splendors that love knows not. It grows stronger when crossed, whereas obstacles kill love. Friendship resists time, which wearies and severs couples. It has heights unknown to love."

I absolutely loved this book!

So Long A Letter is a book written in epistolary form, in which Ramatoulaye writes a letter to her dearest friend, describing her emotional struggle after her husband decided to take a second wife.

Known as important feminist literature, this book addresses a woman's struggle when she has to mourn the death of her husband who abandoned and embarrassed her.

I loved the writing in this book-so direct with hard-hitting messages. I picked this book up for my Reading The World Challenge for Senegal and I've learned so much about the country, even though this story is only about 120 pages. Reading about the overall atmosphere and look at polygamous relationships in Senegal and how it affects the women was truly eyeopening. This is an important book, as it addresses love and friendship, independence and strength and the difficulties accompanied with marriage and how people deal with them differently.
